Key Personnel

Project Manager: Responsible for connectivity and data import for the MRI eSight project.

European Project Manager: The overall project manager for Europe.

European Engineering Director: The project lead with overall responsibility for the MRI eSight Project.

European Operations Director: The project sponsor with overall responsibility for the client’s reduction targets.

Challenges

They faced several key challenges, including:

  • The goal of achieving 100% sustainable juice by 2030, with a near-term target of 75% by 2025, under significant pressure from stakeholders who have their sustainability targets.
  • A substantial increase in energy spending from £75 million to £140 million.
  • A lack of energy performance monitoring, metering, and monitoring systems.
  • Limited visibility and the inability to benchmark sites, hindering their understanding of where to invest for greater efficiency.

Solutions with MRI eSight

To address these challenges, they partnered with MRI Software to implement MRI eSight – A leading Energy Management System (EMS). The project proceeded with two initial scenarios, one with metering and one without.

At this stage, MRI’s global Professional Services team partnered with our client to ensure a playbook for implementation success was customised to their specific requirements and in place ahead of rollout.

During the pilot phase, MRI eSight collected up to 25 data points and built a comprehensive structure, naming conventions, reports, and dashboards. The client settled on a uniform metering rollout approach.

These dashboards presented crucial data and KPIs, including energy consumption per litre, electric consumption per litre, gas usage, and water consumption per litre of product. Following the successful pilot phase, MRI and the client developed an implementation document to facilitate the rapid rollout of Phase 1 across Europe.

Core Business Benefits

The implementation of MRI eSight resulted in several key business benefits:

  • Data-driven decision-making: They can now report energy ratios across the business, empowering them to make informed decisions and allocate resources efficiently, thereby driving investments in newer, more sustainable technologies.
  • Production efficiency: The engagement with production teams allows for continuous monitoring and the elimination of excess energy waste, leading to increased production efficiency.
  • Best practice sharing: Regional best practices are shared across teams, enabling further energy savings and cross-team collaboration.

Future Plans

The team considers the MRI eSight project highly successful and is already planning for the future. They are working on a pilot for Phase 2 and intend to expand the implementation to other geographies, such as the US and Australia. This proactive approach reflects their commitment to sustainability and efficiency, driven by their partnership with MRI Software.

MRI eSight’s Energy Management System has not only helped the client overcome energy-related challenges but also positioned them for a sustainable and efficient future.
