Multi-cloud: the best fit for Grand Union Housing Group

This blog post relates to Castleton, one of our previous brands. For more information please read the press release.

We are pleased to announce our existing customer Grand Union Housing Group has taken on a significant four-year managed service project with Castleton, valued at £1.0 million. Castleton will provide a number of multi-cloud hosting and unified communications services to drive strengthened operations within the organisation, all to ensure Grand Union remain on track to deliver their customer 2020 vision.

Simon Penaluna, IT Director for GUHG comments “Grand Union Housing Group are excited to be working with Castleton to deliver their IT and network infrastructure in a way that sets us up for the future.  This will enable GUHG to deliver further ambitions and our “Customer 2020” strategy by allowing staff to work in an agile way on a platform of efficient, robust, and resilient systems.”

Grand Union opted to tender the project to ensure they were getting sight of the best possible services and solutions in the market. The flexibility and choice that Castleton’s multi-cloud has to offer means that GUHG will benefit from Edge systems refresh, Private cloud hosting in Castleton’s Tier 4 next-generation data centre facility, Public cloud hosting of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Unified Communications system.

Castleton CTO comments “With concerns around security, latency, vendor lock-in, and cost-control, there is a desire for organisations to have a more balanced distributed workload across Edge, Private cloud and Public cloud environments through a multi-cloud deployment. This ensures the greatest ROI from their IT spend and mitigates the risks associated with individual clouds. We are pleased to be working with Grand Union, who recognise our cloud services can deliver on these benefits.”

To ensure a robust infrastructure, all these services are secured with Castleton’s market-leading backup and disaster recovery platform, all fully connected via a new Software-Defined Wide Area Network and Wireless Local Area Network. As part of the organisations move to a more modern working environment, staff hardware is being refreshed with around 200 state of the art Dell laptops, managed by Castleton’s mobile device and user environment management solutions, providing simple ongoing control of the client estate. The contract is for an initial four years with an option for three annual extensions thereafter.

Castleton CEO commented: “With our recent £1.0m investment to develop our data centre facilities, we are in a great position to fulfil our customer’s demands for robust, flexible, and scalable multi-cloud platforms. This new project with GUHG absolutely demonstrates this capability and we benefit from a strengthened ongoing relationship with this forward-thinking organisation.”

Work is now underway with completion expected in August 2019.
