Liverpool ONE Drives Retail Innovation with AI-powered Insights from MRI Software

Liverpool ONE, a premier UK retail destination, has selected MRI Software’s OnLocation for Footfall Analytics solution to provide insights into visitor flow across its expansive 2.5 million sq ft estate.

One of the UK’s top five retail destinations, Liverpool ONE is a premier shopping, residential and leisure complex in the heart of the city. The introduction of Liverpool ONE in 2008 lifted the region’s economic status, cementing Liverpool’s place among the UK’s most sought-after retail destinations.

Implementing MRI OnLocation for Footfall Analytics will enable Liverpool ONE to track and leverage real-time footfall data, positioning the retail destination for success as the Golden Quarter approaches.

Iain Finlayson, Estate Director at Liverpool ONE, said, “Collaborating with MRI Software is key to our ongoing commitment to innovation and growth. With footfall data and insights at our fingertips, we will better understand the needs of our visitors, optimise our operations, and continue to provide a meaningful contribution to the city of Liverpool.

“The technology will not only improve our ability to adapt to market trends but also strengthen our position as a forward-thinking retail destination, ensuring we remain vibrant for years to come.”

Recent high-profile events in Liverpool, such as the Labour Party conference held 22-25 September 2024, drove a 7% year-on-year rise in footfall for the city in that week alone, according to MRI Software’s footfall trends. As reported by ACC Liverpool, the five-day event is estimated to have contributed over £30 million to the local economy as visitors descended on the city and frequented local hotels, bars, restaurants and shops during their stay. The rise in footfall continues to highlight the positive impact of events and conferences within regional cities.

Jon Burnett, UK Sales Director, MRI Software, commented, “This partnership is a game-changer, not just for Liverpool ONE but for the entire city because it expands on existing footfall data from multiple retail locations and in the city centre itself. The ability to tap into AI-driven data will redefine how the estate understands visitor behaviour, making data-backed decisions that will shape future growth.”
