MRI Software helps create first national mental wellness support program for real estate professionals

Free online masterclasses hosted by RiSE and Heart on My Sleeve

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 18 July 2022. MRI Software proudly announces its partnership with the RISE Initiative to roll-out a national mental wellness peer support, education and certification program called Mental Wellness in Real Estate accessible to all real estate professionals across Australia, starting this month.

The urgency for a proactive program of mental health advocacy and support in the real estate industry was sharpened after MRI Software released its Voice of the Property Manager report earlier this year. The report showed a disturbing 53 percent of property managers struggling with mental health challenges – and 1 in 4 considering leaving the industry. A new Coroner’s report also purportedly classified real estate professionals as being at “high risk” of suicide.[1]

[1] news.com.au reported the Victorian Coroner’s office has classified the real estate industry as “high risk” after it found the annual industry suicide rate was 13 per 100,000 people in its article “Aussie industry where bullying, assault and mental health issues are rife” dated 13 April 2022 by Sarah Sharples.

Developed in partnership with mental health provider Heart on My Sleeve, the new Mental Wellness in Real Estate program by RiSE starts this month with the first in a series of five Online Masterclass webinars, called Overcoming Limiting Beliefs, on Wednesday July 27.

Heart on my Sleeve (HOMS) founder Mitch Wallis applauds the proactive leadership shown in launching this RiSE initiative to inspire and equip real estate professionals in having “real conversations” with colleagues, family or friends. “Whether you’re going through a mentally difficult time or supporting someone through it, relationships are the single greatest mental health tool we have at our disposal, scientifically speaking. These Masterclasses are designed to be highly interactive to measurably help people feel more confident in knowing when to listen, when to speak, what to say, and generally improve their mental health literacy,” he says.

Each of the five 45-minute Mental Wellness in Real Estate online Masterclasses is free thanks to the support of MRI Software, and will be held on the last Wednesday of every month from July until November on the following topics:

    1. Overcoming Limiting Beliefs | July 27, 12pm AEST | Book your spot.
How to measure your mental health, why speaking up is hard and how you can overcome the barriers to vulnerability. |
    2. Boundaries | August 31, 12pm AEST | Book your spot.
The two axes of “involvement” and how to keep yourself safe while showing up for others so you don’t put yourself in danger.
    3. Finding your words | September 28, 12pm AEST | Book your spot.
What, when and how to let someone know what you’re going through: communicating with structure and coherence.
    4. Disclosure at Work | October 26, 12pm AEDT |  Book your spot.
Understanding the pros and cons of disclosing to your workplace and accessing support through your employer.
    5. Advanced Listening Skills | November 30, 12pm AEDT | Book your spot.
Six evidence-based attributes of effective listening and six techniques that lead to deeper understanding.

Sarah Bell, RiSE co-founder and director says, “Our shared goals with HOMS and MRI Software are for the real estate industry to remove the internal shame barrier and provide more skills for people to reach out when they are struggling, or to show up for friends, colleagues or family needing support. We are very proud to offer this Mental Wellness Program with HOMS nationally with enormous thanks for the generous support of our partner, MRI Software, that makes it free and therefore accessible to literally everyone in real estate.”

David Bowie, SVP and managing director for Asia Pacific at MRI Software (pictured left with Mitch Wallis from HOMS) who is also on the Advisory Board for the RiSE Initiative, adds, “Mental health and wellness must be a top priority for everyone after some of the most difficult years we’ve faced as human beings, leaders and colleagues. The findings from our Voice of the Property Manager report confirmed what many of us knew already, that times are mentally tough for our industry. So I’m honoured for MRI to be part of a systemic change solution with the Mental Wellness in Real Estate program in partnership with HOMS.”
