Property management is a people business
After 30 years in the real estate industry, there’s one thing that Brendan Christensen knows for sure – property management is a people business. “People want to deal with people, and the ability for property managers to communicate effectively with clients and efficiently provide a high level of service is critical to the success of an agency,” he says. “There’s no doubt that technology can help us do this, but it has to be the right technology. “As a business, this is one of the biggest challenges we face every day. We need to have the right systems in place to help us work effectively and efficiently. “For us, that’s Property Tree.”
Finding the right fit
Brendan has first-hand experience of how having the wrong technology in place can adversely impact a business. “The cloud-based system we were using was causing us no end of problems, which had flow-on effects for our productivity and service levels,” he explains. “Quite frankly, it just didn’t work. Not a week went by when we weren’t on the phone for hours trying to sort out issues, because the system just didn’t do what we were told it could do.”
The last straw was when the system went down for three days, which was just unacceptable for us as a business. After all, time is money.
Knowing that change was an absolute necessity for the business, Brendan looked at a number of different platforms before deciding on Property Tree and making the move at the start of July 2021. “A cloud-based system was non-negotiable for us, as was the need for it to be fast, secure and reliable to ensure business continuity,” he says. “And, put simply, we wanted a system that delivered all the promised functionality. “Property Tree gives us so much flexibility, because we don’t need to be in the office to get things done. The information we need is always on hand. All we need to do is pull out our tablet or smartphone, and we can easily access the information we need and provide a great service to clients.”
Migrating to Property Tree
Brendan says the migration process went smoothly. “Moving to a new property management system has the potential to be stressful, but our account manager at MRI Software was fantastic,” he says. “Our team have really embraced Property Tree and have taken to it like ducks to water. “No one wants to spend hours and even days getting their head around a new software system. These days, we expect to be able to pick up a device or log into a system and intuitively discover how it works and what to do.
