Revealed: The best cities in the US to move to in 2025, according to new data
Forget New York, LA, and Miami, the real American dream is unfolding somewhere quieter, safer, and far more affordable.
According to MRI Software’s latest Move-In Magnet Index, the best cities to move to in 2025 aren’t the ones you’d expect. By analyzing job opportunities, cost of living, and safety data, the report reveals the hidden hotspots where people are finding better balance, booming economies, and space to breathe.
From the peaceful charm of New England to the fast-growing suburbs of the Midwest, these cities prove that the best places to live in 2025 are often the ones hiding in plain sight.
Nashua, New Hampshire crowned America’s best city to move to

Nashua takes the top spot, proving that size isn’t everything when it comes to livability. With over 66,000 job openings and one of the highest safety scores in the country (73.3), this New England gem is quietly becoming one of the most sought-after places to live. Its winning combination of opportunity, charm, and accessibility makes Nashua the perfect fit for professionals looking to trade chaos for calm, all without giving up career prospects.
Coming in second, Aurora offers an impressive 68,000 jobs, the highest in the top five, alongside one of the lowest costs of living (57.3). The Chicago suburb continues to attract attention from those seeking urban access without Chicago’s price tag, maintaining strong employment and community safety credentials.
Cleveland secures third place, offering the lowest cost of living in the ranking (36.4), making it one of the most affordable major cities in America. Its job market remains steady with over 42,000 openings, while its growing arts scene, lakefront location, and revitalized downtown have transformed Cleveland into an affordable urban hub.
In fourth place, Dover combines small-town life with big opportunities. With one of the highest safety scores (72.1) and a reasonable cost of living (65.4), it’s emerging as a haven for remote workers and retirees alike. Dover’s growing job market and community feel continue to attract newcomers to Delaware’s capital.
Salt Lake City completes the top five, scoring highly for both safety (65.5) and cost of living (63.7). With over 28,000 jobs available and a booming tech industry, it continues to attract families, professionals, and digital nomads looking for city life surrounded by natural beauty.
“This year’s Index shows a clear shift toward smaller, safer, and more affordable cities,” says Cederick Johnson at MRI Software. “Places like Nashua, Dover, and Aurora are thriving because they offer more than economic opportunity; they deliver a lifestyle balance that major metros can’t match.”
