A Database Administrator is responsible for managing computer systems that store and organize data for companies. Their duties include creating and maintaining a relationship with customers, securing data, and identifying areas for improvement with the infrastructure.

The primary duty of Database Administrators is to keep a company’s data safe, accessible, and easy to understand. These professionals also help develop stages of a database system. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Implementing security measures for multiple RDBM systems
  • Backups and restores of multiple RDBM systems
  • Continually monitoring of multiple RDBM systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise around database performance
  • Ability to work on multiple items with little guidance
  • Strong T-SQL experience

Database Administrator experience and training requirements

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of eight (8) years professional experience with MS SQL Server (Versions 2008 to 2019).
  • Experience resolving issues around Disaster Recovery and High Availability including Windows Failover Clustering and Availability Groups
  • The ability to function in assignments, perform health checks, SQL tuning and data migrations that includes on call support and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with SQL Server installation and configuration, Database upgrades and patching.
  • Experience with Database security and audit compliance
  • Experience with the following is a nice to have (from a database administrative role):

o   MySQL/MariaDB

o   Postgres

o   Oracle

o   Sybase

o   Cloud base (AWS/Azure) as well as COLO experience

o   Backup technology around AWS/Azure, Cohesity, Commvault and Native.


Database Administrator education and training requirements

MRI will require candidates to complete on-the-job training and either already possess or earn industry-recognized certifications, such as the Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Oracle Database Certification and IBM Certified Database Administrator designation.
