The COVID-19 relief package, signed into law on December 27, 2020, included $25 billion for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). This program is designed to reduce evictions by providing funding to help residents with incomes that do not exceed 40% of the Area Median Income (AMI) who are facing housing emergencies.

While much needed, ERAP introduces new operational challenges for affordable and public housing organizations. Providing a fair and efficient application process and communicating with the local community is integral to the distribution of these funds.
