Halifax Port Authority Implements Intuit Real Estate Solutions’ MRI Commercial System

MRI Commercial Uniquely Equipped to Handle Portfolio and Billing Needs

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- December 13, 2006 -- The Halifax Port Authority has chosen Intuit Real Estate Solutions’ MRI Commercial property management and accounting solution to help improve the management of the port’s diverse real estate portfolio. The bulk of the Port Authority’s revenue comes from its real estate operations. The Authority owns 241 acres of land and manages 170 commercial leases, including one of the city’s largest event centers, the Cunard Centre. Based in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, it also leases space to terminal operators, and leases the land to help move cargo.

The Authority’s old system required a great deal of manual reporting and could no longer support the business. For example, the system was unable to provide the level of flexibility and scalability needed to effectively manage the real estate portfolio. In an evaluation of numerous real estate software vendors, IRES emerged as the company best equipped to handle the Authority’s needs, with the prospect of developing a long-term partnership.

It was the customizability of the MRI Commercial module that helped Halifax accomplish their goals. “With the help of Lynx Systems Inc., the Canadian partner of IRES and the Application Toolkit, IRES’ easy-to-use tailoring tools, we were able to combine the Corporate Accounts Receivable and the Commercial Accounts Receivable modules to create the kind of billing system we needed to streamline our billing processes.
